Any surrounding sheath does not protect patients who have had breast removal due to cancers or tumours of the breast tissue. So this would lead to the dispersion of cells into various body parts, causing high damage to the patient. There is not much of sex discrimination for breast cancer as it can affect both men and women.
Mastectomy is the breast surgery that involves removal of breast tissue. It can be either partial or complete and can be done to one or both the breasts.
WILL EVERY MASTECTOMY PATIENT NEED BREAST RECONSTRUCTION?
Not really. This would depend upon the kind of surgery the patient has gone through previously. In case of a lumpectomy (removal of a breast lump) or breast-conserving surgery where a part of the breast has is removed, and the remaining part is safeguarded, the patients would be sufficient with external prosthesis or bras which would not let them down. But still, you can talk to your surgeon if you are not happy with the alternatives.
WHAT ARE THE USES:
A major issue for any woman is about the way they look externally, and it is about self-confidence if their breasts look equal or not in every dress that they wear .every woman would want to regain their breast shape permanently.
DOES IT SCAR AFTER SURGERY?
It is normal for every surgery to give a slight scar. However, newer techniques have drastically reduced the amount of scarring. Breast reconstruction after a mastectomy might make you feel good about the way you look and can revive your self-confidence.
TYPES OF BREAST RECONSTRUCTION PROCEDURES:
1. Breast implants (using silicone or saline implants)
2. Tissue flap procedures (using the patient’s body tissues)
Sometimes a combination of an implant and flap procedures are done to get natural-looking results. Also, nipple and areola reconstruction procedures can be done to help make the reconstructed breast look more like the original breast.
The most commonly used, or rather most preferred breast implants:
Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water and are safe. The implants have the advantage of being adjustable postoperatively through a remote injection port. This procedure is commonly used in some types of breast enhancement procedures to adjust the implant volume for months before the implant port is removed.
Gel implants feel more like natural breast tissue. Silicone implants keep their shape even if the shell is cut or broken. These implants are firmer than regular implants and might be less likely to rupture.
